Abstract: This chapter addresses the theme of collective action by disadvantaged groups to achieve greater equality. The first part of the chapter aims to better understand what can lead individuals to engage in such movements, notably through perceived injustice, perceived efficacy and identity. The following section outlines the various possible activities and emphasizes the distinction between normative and non-normative actions. This section also looks at the influence of social media and the new forms of activism that are emerging. Finally, the last part of the chapter questions the effectiveness of collective action. To this end, the support of members of privileged groups and key players in social change is discussed, highlighting a literature that is still in its infancy.
